If you want to start creating content but you're afraid people are gonna judge you and talk shit about you, don't worry, they will. People are gonna start sending your video into group chats with their friends and start saying, my god, look how fucking cringe and try hard this guy. Your worst anxieties about what they're probably thinking about you are true. But until the day I die, I will not respect a single motherfucker that has that burning desire to create content and succumbs to that social pressure.
A little backstory, last night I was hanging with my friends and they were talking shit about this one guy who started posting YouTube videos on campus. He posted a vlog and two of my friends were saying, my god, it's so cringe. This is so weird. But it pissed me off so much because one of the hardest things to do is to genuinely put yourself out there and trying something ambitious when you haven't found success in it yet.
And it was something I was self-conscious about for the longest time. A year and a half ago, I started a self-improvement page on Instagram. For the first six months of consistently posting, I think I genuinely gained like 100 followers during that period. And throughout the past three years of my life, I've never felt stronger anxiety towards something. Because I also decided to take a year off from college to pursue social media full time.
And every day that I woke up where I didn't have strong results to show for myself, I would just think about how many people, how many friends out there were looking at my page and just cringing. There's going to be a grind phase and nobody really talks about this. But the hardest thing to do on social media is not to make the videos.
The hardest thing is to overcome the social pressure of what other people will be thinking about you when you post the video. inherently if you want to create content that shows that you enjoy this process okay the process of picking up the camera and making a video is not hard it's fun the hard part is putting it out
there because yes it is true that people will talk shit about you it is inevitable there are insecure people out there who have nothing better to do but talk shit about other people but you spend your whole life pushing aside your big dreams to pander to the approval of insecure people as a
side effect the people who you really want to become like will not want to surround themselves with you
