Starve your branches and you destroy where you're going. Your mother sacrificed parts of her life so you could have yours. Your wife is the woman you choose to build that life with and may one day make those same sacrifices for your children. Love that needs another love to die just so they can feel alive isn't love, it's possession. The right wife doesn't need your mother demoted to feel chosen and the right mother doesn't need your wife pushed aside to feel honored.

If someone asks you to prove your love by betraying someone else, they're not measuring how much you love them, they're measuring how much control they have over you. Love was never supposed to be a throne where one person has to be pushed off so another can sit down. If you need a winner, you've already misunderstood what love is. So who's more important?
