How to Search Saved Posts on Instagram (2026)

How to search saved posts on Instagram with the new Saved search, who has it, why it often finds nothing, and how to search saved Reels by what was said.

How to search saved posts on Instagram used to have a one-word answer: you can't. Saved was a grid you scrolled, and the only filter was the Collections you built yourself. In October 2026 that changed for some accounts. A search option appeared inside Saved, and people started asking where it is, why they don't have it, and why it keeps saying it found nothing.

This guide answers those three questions, based on what is public and on our own test on an iPhone. Instagram has not documented the feature, so we say "in our test" wherever we describe behaviour rather than an official spec.

Can you search saved posts on Instagram now?

Partly. On 8 October 2026, Ahmed Ghanem, who regularly posts Instagram features before they are announced, shared that Instagram has added an option to search within your Saved posts (Threads). SocialBee's running list of Instagram updates picked it up under October 2026 (SocialBee).

Three things are worth knowing before you go looking for it:

How to search saved posts on Instagram, step by step

If your account has the feature, this is the path:

  1. Update Instagram from the App Store or Google Play. Tests usually reach the latest app version first.
  2. Open your profile and tap the menu (three lines) in the top corner.
  3. Tap Saved. If the test is on for your account, you will see a search option in Saved.
  4. Type a keyword or a creator's username. The empty-state message in our test suggests both: "Try a different keyword or search by author."
  5. Open a result and check it is the post you meant. If nothing comes up, try the creator's handle instead of a topic.

If there is no search option in Saved after updating, your account is not in the test yet. There is no setting that turns it on, and logging out or reinstalling does not opt you in.

What Instagram's Saved search finds, and what it can't

We tested it on an iPhone with a library that has plenty of cooking and travel Reels. Two ordinary queries, "pasta recipe" and "place in bali", both returned the same screen:

"We couldn't find anything. Try a different keyword or search by author."

Saved Reels on both topics were there. The hint in that message is the useful part: Instagram points you to keywords and authors, not to the content of the video. In our test it behaved like a match on text attached to the post (and on the creator), not like a search of what the Reel shows or says.

What that means in practice, in our test:

We are describing behaviour, not internals. Instagram may change how the search works while the test runs, and we will update this guide when it does.

Instagram saved search not working? Five checks

When the search shows nothing or does not show up at all, go through these in order:

  1. No search option in Saved. Your account is not in the test. Update the app and check again in a few days; there is nothing else to switch on.
  2. "We couldn't find anything" for a topic. Search by the creator's username instead, or by a distinctive word you remember from the caption.
  3. The post was deleted or made private. Saved items from accounts that removed the post or went private stop opening, in search and in the grid.
  4. You saved it in a Collection. Open the Collection and scroll it; Collections are smaller, so this is often faster than the search for a topic.
  5. You need a list of everything. Instagram's own data download gives you a file with a link to every post you ever saved. Our guide to exporting Instagram saved posts walks through it in a few minutes.

How to search saved Reels by what was said

Most people do not remember a caption. They remember a sentence: "the guy who said to toast the rice first", "the trainer who said three sets is enough". That is the gap Instagram's Saved search leaves open, and it is the case where the native options stop.

Two routes close it:

Make the spoken content of your saves searchable. Tools like SavedThat transcribe every Reel, TikTok and YouTube video you save, so you can search your library by what was said and open the video at the exact second. As of October 2026 our index holds 547 Instagram Reels with a median length of 49 seconds, and 526 of them also have frame analysis, so text shown on screen is searchable too. That is exactly the content a caption match misses. Your first 5 videos are free with no card.

Do it yourself. If you prefer not to use a service, the export gives you the links, and a speech-to-text tool can transcribe the Reels you download. It works, but it is an afternoon of setup and you redo it every time you save more. Our longer guide on Instagram Reels search by spoken words compares the do-it-yourself routes, including screenshot OCR.

The honest verdict

Instagram's Saved search is a real step: for the first time you can find a saved post without scrolling, as long as you remember who posted it or a word they typed. If you have it, use it for that.

It does not solve the harder problem, which is the Reel you remember by one sentence and nothing else. For that, the spoken content of your saves has to be searchable, either with a tool or with your own pipeline.

Frequently asked questions (2026)

Can you search saved posts on Instagram?

Yes, if your account has the new Saved search that Instagram started showing to some users in early October 2026. Open your profile, tap the menu, open Saved and type a keyword or a creator's username. If there is no search option there, your account is not in the test yet.

Why don't I have search in my Instagram Saved?

As of 13 October 2026 the feature looks like a test on some accounts, with no official announcement. Update the app and check again later. There is no setting to turn it on, and reinstalling does not opt you in.

Why does Instagram Saved search say it couldn't find anything?

In our test it matched keywords and creators, not what is said or shown in the video, so topic searches like "pasta recipe" returned nothing even though such Reels were saved. Search by the creator's username or by a word you remember from the caption.

Can I search my saved Reels by what someone said?

Not with Instagram's Saved search, in our test. To find a Reel by a sentence you remember, the audio has to be transcribed. A transcript search tool such as SavedThat does that for Reels, TikToks and YouTube videos you save.

Is Instagram's Saved search the same as the main search tab?

No. The search tab at the bottom of the app searches all of Instagram. The search in Saved looks only at the posts and Reels you saved.

How do I get a list of everything I saved on Instagram?

Request your information in Accounts Center, select only Saved, choose JSON and All time, and download the file when Instagram notifies you. It contains a link, the creator's username and the date for every saved post and Reel.
