Open your Instagram saves and count the ones you have acted on. For most people the answer is close to zero. One creator with 14,000 saved posts said on camera that she had cooked from exactly none of them, until Meta Muse read her saved Reels and handed her a PDF of every recipe, with ingredients and the creator credited.
That is why Muse went from launch to the top of the charts in days. It reached #1 among free apps on the US App Store and passed ChatGPT there (Fox Business); TechCrunch counted about 3.4 million downloads in its first weeks (TechCrunch). The pitch lands because everyone has a saved graveyard.
Below: what Muse actually does with saved Reels, how to set it up in about ten minutes, prompts you can copy, what Meta has not documented yet, and what to do if Muse is not available where you live.
What Meta Muse does with your saved Instagram Reels
Muse is an AI agent, not a chatbot. It runs tasks on its own: it can open a browser, fill in forms, send email and book travel, and it checks with you before sensitive actions (Meta). Because Meta owns both Muse and Instagram, the two talk to each other without any export, screenshot or copy-paste step.
Meta's own launch example is the one that went viral: Muse turns a recipe Reel you saved into a grocery list and can suggest dinner menus from what you have saved (Meta). Creators who got access in the first week showed more:
- A travel guide from 98 saved posts. A creator who had just moved to New York asked Muse to consolidate her saved restaurant and activity posts. It built a small app with every venue by category and neighbourhood, day plans, and a map, which she could share as a link. When she saved more, she told Muse to update it.
- PDFs by topic. The mom with 14,000 saves got one PDF of recipes with exact ingredients and creator credit, one of parenting tips, one of relationship tips and one of places to visit.
- Saves routed to where you work. Another creator sends her recipe collection to a custom site and her content-inspiration collection to a Slack group.
The pattern is the same every time: one collection in, one useful artefact out. That is the real unlock. Saves stop being a pile you scroll and become something that exists outside Instagram.
How to use Meta Muse with saved Reels, step by step
This is the setup that the published tutorials and Meta's own settings point to. We could not run it ourselves (more on that below), so treat the menu names as what reviewers reported at launch.
- Check that you can get it. Muse is available in the US and Canada, on iOS, Android and the web, and inside WhatsApp (TechCrunch, DataCamp). Reviewers list it as 18+.
- Sign in with your Meta account. Engadget's reviewer found his accounts already linked after signing in with a phone number; there was no separate Instagram authorisation step (Engadget). Several setup guides report that a payment card is requested at signup even for the free plan (DataCamp); Meta's announcement does not mention it.
- Turn off model training before you connect anything. In Muse's settings, untick "help improve our AI models". Meta says you can opt out of your interactions being used for training and ask Muse to forget specific things.
- Set actions to "always ask". The default lets Muse act on its own in low-risk situations. For a first run on your saves, "always ask" costs you a few taps and shows you exactly what it does.
- Sort the saves into Instagram Collections first. Every successful demo worked on a named collection, not on the whole saved tab. Five minutes of dragging Reels into "Recipes", "Trips" and "Ideas" makes the prompt precise and the output clean.
- Give one bounded task and check the result. One collection, one output format. Expand only after the first result is right.
- Keep it alive. When you save more, tell Muse to update the same guide, list or page rather than starting over.

Recipes into a shopping list
Read every post in my Instagram saved collection "Recipes". For each recipe, list the dish, the creator's handle and the exact ingredients. Then build one grocery list for the three dishes I can cook this week with the fewest extra ingredients. Ask before ordering anything.
A trip collection into a map
Go through my saved collection "Lisbon". Pull every place mentioned: name, neighbourhood, type, and why the creator recommended it. Make a shareable page with a map, grouped by neighbourhood, and a one-day plan for each area.
Learning Reels into study notes
Read my saved collection "Money". Summarise each post in two lines with a link back to it, group them by topic, and flag any two that contradict each other.
Creator ideas bank
Look at my saves from the last six months that fit my niche. Pick the 15 strongest, and for each give a hook, a three-shot outline and a caption draft. Skip anything off-topic.
Monthly clean-up
Every month, tell me which new saves do not fit any of my collections and suggest where each one should go.
What Meta Muse can't do yet (or hasn't shown)
Muse is day-one software, and the honest list of unknowns matters more than the demos.
- It is not available in most of the world. No UK, EU, Australia, India or elsewhere yet. Meta posted "Where to next?" after Canada, with no dates (iPhone in Canada). Meta AI's chatbot took about 18 months to reach the UK after its US launch, and UK and EU privacy rules are the usual reason (Mad Robot).
- Meta has not documented what it reads inside a Reel. Whether Muse uses the caption only, the on-screen text, or the spoken audio of each Reel is not stated in the launch post or in any review we found. Recipes usually have the ingredients in the caption, which is why they demo well. A talking-head Reel where the key sentence is only spoken is the case to test before you rely on it.
- It builds artefacts; it does not find moments. Asking an agent to "find the Reel where someone said to salt the pasta water after it boils" across thousands of saves is a different job from summarising one collection, and none of the demos show it.
- It has limits and a price. The free tier comes with a weekly token allowance; paid plans are reported at $20 and $100 a month (The Neuron).
- Your public posts are a separate question. Meta's image generator Muse Image, released in July 2026, can reuse images from public Instagram accounts by default. To opt out, open Instagram on your phone, go to Settings and activity, then Sharing and reuse, and switch off reuse for posts and Reels. Switching it off does not delete images already generated (FindLaw).
Meta Muse not available in your country? What works instead
If you are outside the US and Canada, three routes give you part of the result today.
Instagram Collections plus Instagram's data export. Your data download from Instagram includes saved_posts.json and saved_collections.json with the link to everything you saved. With those links you can feed any AI assistant a list and ask for the same kind of summaries, though it will only see what the links and captions reveal. Transcript search for the "where did someone say that" problem. This is the job Muse does not claim. Wait for Muse, but prepare now. Sorting saves into collections is useful with or without an agent, and it is exactly the input Muse needs on day one in your country.

They are not rivals so much as two halves. Muse is strong when you know which collection you mean and want something built from it. Transcript search is strong when you remember a sentence but not the video, the creator or even the platform.
The honest verdict on Meta Muse and saved Reels
Muse is the first product from Meta that treats your saves as something to use rather than something to scroll, and the demos are useful, not just impressive. If you are in the US or Canada, set it up with training turned off and actions on "always ask", start with one collection, and check the first output by hand.
If you are anywhere else, the saved graveyard is still yours to fix: organise collections, and make the spoken content of your saves searchable so the one Reel you need is a query away, not a scroll.
