What ReelRecall does better
ReelRecall is the closest thing we have to a direct competitor, and it is a good product. Three things it does better than we do today.
Collections and tags. ReelRecall auto-tags each clip by topic, lets you add your own tags, and lets you group clips into smart collections you can share with someone else. SavedThat deliberately has none of that - no folders, no tags, nothing to file - which is the right call for finding one moment and the wrong call if you want to hand a friend a tidy set of twelve recipes.
You can buy more room today. ReelRecall publishes a plan: ten videos free, then $9 a month or $90 a year for unlimited. SavedThat's payments are switched off during the beta, so the product is free and there is no way to purchase extra headroom at all. If you are archiving thousands of clips right now and would rather pay than wait, that is a real advantage on their side.
A single, narrow focus. TikTok, Reels and Shorts only. Everything in the product is sized for clips under a minute, and their site claims transcription inside a minute of pasting and search results in under two seconds. Narrow products tend to be simpler to use, and this one is.
What SavedThat does better
The two products overlap on one sentence - transcribe short video, make the words searchable. These are the places where the overlap ends.
It searches meaning, not only words. Full-text search needs the word you type to be a word that was said. That is a thin target on short video: the median saved Reel in our own library runs 47 seconds as of September 2026, which is roughly a hundred and thirty spoken words in total. And people do not search in keywords. Of the 144 searches run against our library in the last 90 days, two thirds were three words or longer and the average was 5.2 words - sentences, not keywords. SavedThat embeds every transcript chunk and fuses vector matches with full-text matches, so «the bit about letting the dough rest overnight» lands on the right second even when nobody said «overnight».
It works across languages. One fifth of those searches were typed in Russian against a library that is mostly English audio, and they resolve, because the embedding model is multilingual across more than a hundred languages. Transcribing in 50+ languages and searching across them are different capabilities: the first gives you text in the language that was spoken, the second lets you ask in yours.
Long videos count too. A 40-minute YouTube interview is exactly the case where you will never rewatch to find one claim, and it is outside ReelRecall's scope. Can I search saved Instagram Reels without any third-party app?
Only by hand. Instagram lets you file saves into collections and its captions are visible while a Reel plays, but the search bar queries public Instagram, never your own saves, and there is no field anywhere that looks inside them. You can request your data export from Instagram and grep the captions it contains, which finds captioned Reels and misses everything that was only spoken aloud.
Can I move my ReelRecall library into SavedThat?
Not in bulk, and we will not pretend otherwise: there is no ReelRecall export we can import. What works is pasting the video links into SavedThat, which re-transcribes each one and indexes it. If your archive is large, that is real work, so it is worth testing with a handful of your own Reels first.
What happens to Reels where nobody talks?
Transcript search cannot help, and no tool on this page can. In our own corpus as of September 2026, 24 of 386 saved Reels carry no speech at all - roughly one in sixteen.
